Parting with my own collections, and this is one - 18th century French Dieppe hand carved spaniel or poodle dog is a sewing needle case. Sweetest little pup, if you look closely, he has 18k gold pique collar with a name carved on the collar. Perhaps a memento of someone's favorite dog, or carved with name of the woman who once owned him. I'm unsure if it was once part of a large sewing necessaire, or sold as a single item, but it's certainly a Palais Royal type item. Measurements noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, the 2 halves fit tightly and perfectly together, without gap (seems I didn't push it fully together for the photos, but it does fit snug). Tiny 18k gold pique work make a collar, and his legs are carved and so cute, as is his face. The single imperfection is the inner lip which does have a chip (see images). Excellent display piece. NOTE: shown on petit point silk tapestry panels which are not included.
