Okay, so I’m walking along through the alleys of the Paris antique market and almost walked past this and his slightly larger brother (listed separately). Just a sideways glance and they were hidden in a small glass display case toward the rear of the dealer’s space. These somewhat plain and utilitarian pieces are quite rare in French sterling, we’ve had a few ecuelle style pieces but, for the most part, the French were sort of known for the extravagance or opulent decoration. This, and it’s near match (sold separately), rather simple. A sauce pan with pouring spout, turned ebony or ebonized wood handle reminiscent of those side handled chocolate pots. No real ornate decoration, just function. Marked with the French Minerve or Minerva hallmark, the tiny number “1” within that mark means it’s in .950 silver (95% pure and so above the .925 standard for “sterling” silver). The silversmith mark for Pierre Hippolyte Fournerot, Paris circa 1833-1857. Fantastic! Dealers and collectors will understand why I was so excited to find it. A wonderful (and RARE) addition to your fine French sterling silver table service or dining experience, don’t miss it! Also, be sure to take a look at its near match while you’re with us. Thanks!

Very good condition. Some slight surface scuffs or faint scratches and some faint tarnish or discoloration but no notable dents, damage or repairs. See pictures for weight and measurements.
