Still in excellent condition, as one might keep a treasured souvenir of a Grand Tour, which is quite likely exactly what this beautiful c.1900 hand fan was. While the box shows some age, it has kept that stunning fine hand made lace and hand painted silk leaf in excellent condition, and the same for the carved mother of pearl guards, monture and bone pieces. Look at that carved and silver-foil inlaid monture, the delicate excellence of the lace made specifically for this fan. It folds to 24.5cm, and I've had the input of some top notch fan dealers to help me be certain of the date. In such fine condition, one might mistake it for a newer one. The age is there, however.
Very good to excellent, closer to excellent, and I see nothing to divulge by way of flaw to silk, hand made lace, the elegant Art Nouveau painting on silk, nor the carved mother of pearl and bone sticks, guards. Even the vast majority of silver foil inlays remain just as they were. I can imagine a bride, gathering a few special souvenirs of her Grand Tour honeymoon, Edwardian era. Isn't it superb!
