Dating to the early 1800s, these opulent dressing cases were a staple at the renowned Palais Royal shops with layers neatly fitted into the interior to hold a variety of the early Grand Tour travelers' needs. This one in superb condition inside and out but missing all of the original bottles, sewing and/or vanity implements though all of the fittings remain. Foil lined wells for tea and or tobacco, silk lined compartment in the front for jewelry, a folio in the lid for important documents and a recessed space that would have held a vanity mirror. The exterior is one of the finest we've had to date, in a richly burled exotic wood, likely coromandel, with heavy brass corners & edging and all in near pristine condition. An exceptional piece, well worth finding replacements if you want to restore it to its original state or great as it is! Superb!

As you can see in the images, the inside and out are as pristine as can be. No veneer chips, cracks or losses, no missing or restored brass accents. It even has the original working skeleton key. The interior lining is as bright red as when made with only some loss to the foil lining in the tea and tobacco wells. As noted, the jars and implements are all missing but all of the fittings are intact (also missing the mirror that would have fit in the lid). See pictures for measurements.
