One sees this exquisite little painting and instantly the art historian will say it is after work by French 18th century artist, Vigee LeBrun. Vigee was daughter of Charles LeBrun, also a court artist of great and lasting fame, Vigee became Marie-Antoinette's favorite and Court portraitist. I searched the image and was unable to find an original of just this pose but I, too, think it would have been a later 1700s to perhaps mid-1800s miniature 'souvenir' painting after the works of Vigee LeBrun. The sitter's clothing put her into the Mid-1700s, large bonnets with broad ribbons of silk, velvet or flowers. I find no signature of the talented artist who so well captured the feel of Miss LeBrun's work. Interesting and unusual bronze frame, unlike any I've ever seen. Full measurements noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, the painting is in heavy goatee, no flaking nor loss, no hairlines more cracks to the panel. Nicely mounted in its frame. Displays very well.
