A personal favorite, this is one from my own collections and it displays beautifully - on one side. Right up front, I point out that the backside panel of tortoise shell has a good deal of bug bite loss to it. It's the only panel they nibbled, thankfully, so with that side down, it's just gorgeous. The perfume flask inside does go with it, though I am unsure if it would have been original to the etui. It fits, but not perfectly snug as I think it would have if it were the old original. It is in fine form, age is right, too - last half of 1700s. It has an 18k gold cap, no damage to the neck or long stopper, which is also not stuck. I should have opened it up on the photo table to show. These are rarely in such fine condition (bottle), and are valuable on their own.
Very good for age and type. The perfume flask is excellent, a tidying to the 18k gold cap's end, but stopper is intact and not stuck, and no breaks at all even on the slender neck. The elegant old tortoise shell and dore bronze etui is excellent for age on all sides but one. That one has a good deal of bug bite loss - you see it as a roughness, marked by x on our photos. One more loss to point out - there is a hole up top for a mount, as this would have been on a chatelaine initially. A loop or a mount for a chain, something went into that round opening. Marked it with an x so you'll notice. Don't miss that little rabbit in the cartouche side of lid. Charming, no? Measurements noted on the photos.
