You know us as one of the world preeminent dealers for 18th to early 19th century Palais Royal goods, sewing and travel necessaire of all sizes, and of course we do also own lots of salvaged sewing tools which have started out as part of a magnificent sewing tool set, but which have become loose or singles sold on their own. We're always certain we'll find a fitted tray with perfect recesses for these, or to fill in one missing piece in a full set, but you know it really never happens. We're ready to sell off our 'spares', each item sold on its own, as shown. Showing them against antique French silk embroidery for ambiance, but the sewing item is sold alone, not with embroideries. Full measurements noted on the photos.
This offering is for an excellent c.1800-20 French carved mother of pearl and 18k gold stiletto, large in size by comparison with most. I have never found or seen another of its size and certainly not carved a a hand. We've had several sealing wax seals with this motif in the past, but never a piece like it from a sewing set. It is gorgeous! Excellent condition for age and type, the 18k gold trim collar in place as is the 18k gold shield cartouche. No monogram. Not a flaw, no chips, hairlines, cracks, and extra large in size - must have come from an exceptionally fine old Palais Royal necessaire. Photos show from all sides for your review.
