An early nineteenth century Staffordshire pottery blue and white transferware C J Mason Lion-topped vegetable tureen and cover, c. 1825. Some we've seen from this CJ Mason mould have a gilded lion, this one has never been gilded. Unmarked to the underside. It is 12" x 9" and 6" tall, overall, with a bowl depth of 2" (27 cm wide). Fabulous for use or display. Everyone loves blue and white again; we're seeing it in all the top decorator's sites and magazines, and homes. This is part of a large purchase I made from a top quality anonymous estate disbursement out of Ohio, USA, with very early CLEWS, Spode, and other top names. Look for others from a world class collector's lifetime of searching the finest. Full measurements are also noted on our photos.
Very good to excellent condition with age and type considered: some light staining to the base interior as well as visible on the undecorated interior lid and base of bottom bowl, platter likely from cooking. It has some glaze crazing, as well, visible on our photos for your review. No chips, no hairlines, no cracks and no evidence of any restorations.
