A part of my collections from decades back, so many of our fine antique ivory objects had to be put into storage.** This one is a Napoleon III era lathe-turned box with slider perch for a pocket watch, glass open view inset in lid makes it a nighttime clock for bedside table. There is room for a pocket watch chain and fob, also, and this would qualify as a 'vide poche' or 'empty pocket', that charming French accessory meant to hold one's jewelry and coins at bedside, overnight. Very good to excellent condition, glass is in place, no chips, a single tiny shrinkage hairline at the back hinge, marked with an x for your review. Both hinge and push-button clasp are functioning fine, and the little watch holder slides smoothly on a bracket to position it perfectly. Holds a smallish watch, 30mm or so, typically a lady's watch. The wreath of hand painted florals encircling the lid make it all the more special.
