So tiny! I so wish the artist had signed this incredible tiny painting. Such talent is quite rare. When you consider her face is only 1/2" from chin to hairline, and the detail the artist has captured which allows the painting to be enlarged as I have and show truly unbelievable likeness down to the curls of hair, the blue eyes. Form of the face and shading. I'm sure this was a very beloved child. I can't date the image, but would say from the jewelry mounting it is c.1850s - 70s, and possibly English rather than French, though it has come from a French estate. One more likely expects 18k gold if French. You can be the expert. Just stunning, isn't it.
Very good condition for age and type. You can see there is a very small blotch on the baby's mouth and jaw, blown up for view. But there is no damage, no chips, no hairlines in the wafer, and housed as it has been, difficult for me to imagine it's dirt. I'm going to clean the cover glass and the gold, and put her solidly back together inside the locket to protect her. Just the sweetest thing! Measurements of painting and locket brooch are on photos.
