These fragile little novelty sewing sets are so rare to find, the petit natural nut etui to please a child or as a doll's sewing necessaire, these were made using real walnut shells. This is the 2nd one we have in inventory, recently acquired along with a collector's estate out of France. Oldest of our 2, half frame in brass (top half is missing), and brass and steel implements, working scissors, tiny stiletto, needle case, tiny pocket knife or folding knife. Missing the thimble and the bodkin (needle). Full measurements noted on photos.
Very good to good condition for age and type. The few natural separations on the polished shell (shown from all sides/views for your inspection) but also evidence of a repaired break which we show, bottom half below hinge, a tiny bit of the shell lost to time there. Silk satin and velvet interior remains in pretty presentation as does the fitted brass frame, hinge and clasp, but oddly, the frame panel is missing for the top half. The shell is a perfect match, and fits over the raised rim frame as you can see, but no connection to hinge, no small brass rim on that loose top half. Still charming to display. Perhaps worth an artisan's restoration on that small brass rim. Closes smoothly. These are rare, even those which are imperfect like this one. Priced commensurate with flaws!
