Elegant antique French Charles X to Napoleon III era double well tea caddy or chest with ornate boulle style brass, white metal & mother of pearl inlays and "The" inlay! We'd date this one to around the mid 1800s, the undulating carved ebony trim is more from the Charles X era but we'll extend that to the the Napoleon III era just in case. A lovely piece, nice larger size and in the elegant ebony or ebonized style with boulle style inlays including the "The" inscription on the lid and floral accented mother of pearl, white metal & brass inlays elsewhere. The interior has the two original lids with brass strip inlays and foil or metallic linings to the wells though some of that is gone from age. A fabulous decorative box!
Very good condition. I see no loss of brass inlay other than a strip from an inside well lid. There may be some loss and/or corrosion to the boulle style inlays (note the corner inlays) and a bit of raised stringing along the right side lid. The box does have a key. See pictures for measurements.
