A likely Grand Tour souvenir, and dating late 1800s to earliest 1900s, this elegantly crafted 2-level jewelry chest is in very nice condition and represents the French Romantic era styling and art. The courting scene miniature painting mounted into the lid, and protected beneath ifs original cover glass is one after the mid-1700s manner referred to as French Romantic Era, leaders of the movement being Bouchard, Fragonard, a few others whose work still hangs in major museums including the Louvre. The box is heavy, beautifully crafted cutaway dore bronze and has 2 tones to the work. The old original key remains with it, lock works, and the interior silk velvet lining is very well preserved, indeed. A fabulous lift-out tray 2-layer box of high quality; I rather expected to see TAHAN engraved on that lock plate. As you see, the designs on all sides of the box but the bottom are cutaway, so you can see the royal blue velvet within. Found, as made: France.
Very good to excellent condition throughout. I see no flaws to note, really. Definitely 100 years or more, and well treasured. Lock and working original ornate key, and measurements are noted on the photos.
