Fabulous antique French Napoleon III era leather & gilt bronze scent caddy with champleve enamel medallion and two Grand Tour style eglomise perfume bottles! This one came to us from France and the leather hinge on the back had separated. Luckily, we found a brass piano hinge that was the perfect size. A beautiful piece, the tooled brown leather with the gilt accents, etc. are quite elegant and the colorful champleve enamel medallion or lid cartouche just adds that much more visual & decorative appeal. The scenes on the eglomise bottles are a bit of a mystery, one appears to be a Roman style circular arena and the other a Romanesque structure with columns and large cupola or dome. Wonderful.
Very good condition. As noted, the hinge is a replacement. The clasp works just fine, the lid has two metal springs at each side (inside) with only one working so it does pop up some when unclasped but not all the way. Some surface marks to the leather but, as you can see, it's in superb shape age considered. A bit of wear to the gilt bronze. The scent bottles are both near pristine with original stoppers. See pictures for all measurements.
