Fabulous antique French Napoleon III or Victorian era 11.5" jewelry or desk box with ornate marquetry style inlay, solid gilt ormolu feet, brass bead festooned edging & ornate engraved brass cartouche! What a beautiful box, just in from France and has all of the visual appeal you could hope for in a Napoleon III era casket. A unique combination of darker walnut (?) and lighter burled maple marquetry veneers, quite attractive. Nice larger size and wonderful condition, a fabulous decorative box!
Very good condition. There is no key and, without being able to lock it, there is a very slight space between the base of the box and lid. I see no veneer losses or damage. The original blue moire silk interior is intact but does have some visible staining. I hesitate to try to clean it given the usual rather delicate nature of 100 year old silk but one could always try. See pictures for measurements.
