Another from my personal collection, this blue-eyed gentleman's clothing has always made him a favorite. Unsigned by the artist, the overall tint to the painting also is intriguing. From his ruffled ascot or cravat to his elegant embroidered vest and large lapel coat, he must have been the epitome of fashion in his time.
Very good to excellent for age and type. The painting is superb, excellent condition and without damage. A very old one, the 12k solid locket frame shows wear and is rippled with dents due to the thin gauge of gold. The outer perimeter isn't, but the original state of it would have had another convex glass covering a likely hair plaiting in backside, and without that additional width, the front panel of the frame has been pushed in to take up the slack, I think. A costume expert could probably date him within 10 years. To my knowledge, this portrait is early to mid-1700s.
