RARE Georgian to early Victorian era Grand Tour souvenir box, casket, jewelry chest in bronze is mounted with 8 fine micro mosaic plaques - sand-sized colored glass tesserae micro mosaic of the famed Roman ruins. Several have imperfections, yet are stable and show well. The one mounted on lid center, the Roman Coliseum, is exquisite and pristine. The photos show it from all sides, details each of the micro mosaics and the 4 stone cameos. Our photos show all so you can evaluate them. If perfect, this casket would be in the $6k range. Full measurements noted on the photos.
Very good condition for age and type, 1 micro mosaic panels lost to time, replaced by a mirror (back, under hinge) and the remaining 8 are in place, though several have imperfections. Each one is shown for your review. The box displays beautifully, lid mounts all are pristine. While the box does have its lock, we do not have a working key at listing time. The interior is original, and in good condition for age. It seems obvious to me there would have been a padded lining in the lid, which is no longer with the box. Remarkable treasure, heavy bronze with elegant all-over patterning and octagon form to body, elegant legs.
