A charming little c.1790s to earliest 1800s French Palais Royal sewing box that has lost it's original interior tray of sewing tools but would love to hold yours or your jewelry. The nicest form for these, sarcophagus or serpentine. It still has the old mirror in the interior lid, the handle up top and the working key remains with the working lock. Lemonwood, it's so pretty to display as a desk box or jewelry box now. It's got a lining inside that is silk, is original. Tattered condition, but original - you might wish to put in a newer silk lining to be ready for your own lovelies. The raised pinwork up top is in wonderful cut steel pique, and that unmonogrammed cartouche up top is mother of pearl. I've listed a few others of these lemonwood c.1800, give or take a few years, boxes. They're sold separately and make a fabulous grouping. Ask us if you aren't finding them easily.

Very good to excellent for age and type, but missing the lift-out sewing tray that would have elevated it and its price a great deal. These are Palais Royal sewing boxes and still just so pretty even though they've lost the sewing pieces. Great for display. Lemonwood is so pretty. Cut steel pin pique work is beautifully done. Note the old handle on this one has gone missing. There is a little loss to the pencil-edging of ebony around the top perimeter of the lid. We've shown from all angles so you can evaluate. As old as this is, it's still gorgeous. Interior' silk lining is not an original one for the box, but it's how it's been fitted in perhaps mid-1900s to be used as a jewelry box. The measurements are noted on the photos, but this one is 7 3/8" long, 5 1/8" wide and 3" tall when closed.
