One of the most elegant portraits ever, this pencil drawing (original) is signed simply "Julio" and dated 1847. No reference to who this handsome young boy with the soulful eyes and casual pose is, but there is a reference stamp on back telling us who the framers were, noting it to have been Lequien Blondeaux, framer "A La Palette de Rubens" located in Lille, France, so perhaps one can begin the research from there. The drawing is in the manner of school of David, and is well preserved in the old original frame, which does show its share of age as you can see in our images. A glorious drawing, however, and could easily be re-framed should a buyer wish it so.
Very good drawing, very little smudge, all original and not a print - there is a dark smudge on forehead, otherwise just the sketchpad as you see it. Protected under glass in the original frame, that frame has some loss so look at our photos to evaluate. Visible water lines on the backing, but nothing on the drawing or mat in front, happily. A superb drawing by a very capable confident artist, likely trained at the easel of David.
