Charming & rare set of eight antique French 8" cabinet plates, a Terre de Fer souvenir set of the 1900 World Exposition in Paris! Each with matching blue & white borders consisting of a stunning array of French themes & medallions, the centers with black scenes of prominent Parisian architecture for or involved in the 1900 Expo. A number of Paris' most noted structures were built for the Exposition, including the Gare de Lyon, the Gare d'Orsay (now the Musée d'Orsay), the Pont Alexandre III, the Grand Palais, La Ruche, and the Petit Palais. The first line of the Paris Metro also began operation to coincide with the Exposition. A set of eight here, each unique and numbered and includes #2 Les Champs-Elysee Et L'Avenue Des Invalides, #4 Pont Alexandre III, #6 Le Grand Palais, #7 Palais D'Enseignement Instruments Science Et Arts, #8 Palais des Mines Et de la Metallurgie, #10 Palais de Mobilier Et des Industries, #11 Palais des ...Tissus Et?, and what looks like #23 Palais de L'Electricite.
Good-very good condition. One with a crack extending roughly 2" from the rim inward on plate #4. Some age discoloration to a few but in overall fine shape and great for wall or cabinet displayed decorative pieces! Can't get much more of that desirable French appeal!
