Fabulous antique Victorian era 9.5" tea caddy, richly burled walnut veneers with domed lid, a unique combination of what appears to be Renaissance revival and Neo Gothic brass accents, foil lined inner tea well and faceted glass mixing pot! What a beauty! Gorgeous wood grain and the brass or gilded bronze accents contrast beautifully! Inside is a covered tea well on the left, remnants of the original foil lining intact. On the right is a fitting holding a lovely faceted glass mixing pot. I can just see it as a set accent in one of these old Victorian to early Edwardian era shows I've been watching (I always love seeing the props in those shows, nearly as much as the story line). A truly superb decorative piece.
Very good condition, age & materials considered. The most obvious exterior flaw is a repair to the hinge area on the right side, patched with a small mahogany section. The interior of the tea well has loss to the foil lining and there is a rather large chip to the base of the faceted glass mixing pot. Also, a small section of the cream colored applique overlay missing from the escutcheon. All original hardware & lock but no key. See images for all measurements.
