Fabulous antique French kitchen and dining table ware in what they call "Etain", a heavy white metal that is more the everyday Country type. I have had a lot of this mixed in shelf display with blue/white antique plates, platters, etain coffee pots, sugar bowls, and I love the look. Haven't ever put it to use, but certainly one could. The family crest you see lets you know it's from a family of note. Perhaps used in the servants quarters. Informally nice. Weighs about 4 lbs, and seems to me that thick metal would keep soup nicely warm.

Good condition, lots of age, no dents though looks like one front leg is slightly pushed. This type of old French metal is slightly bendable, though this one is very thickly cast. I think that leg will easily move a little. The old metal has that discoloration of age, a charming patina. It is 14" handle to handle - big! The actual bowl, or rim at where the lid fits is 11.5" x 8.5" oval, and is 4" deep, not counting the height of the lid. Overall, with the pear up top, it is about 7" in total height.
