Fabulous large antique French c. early 1800s Louis Philippe to Napoleon III era hand painted portrait miniature style painting, a "naughty" or romantic display with unique interior scene and solid wood & gilt bronze frame! Very similar in style to romantic works by Boucher or Fragonard, this one with a unique 'interior' though as opposed to their more common garden settings. Both in Louis XV, Marie Antoinette style dress, seated on a couch or sofa in carved wood with green upholstery. An oval mirror on the wall, fireplace off to the left like you'd see in the apartments at Versailles and the woman holding a vanity fan in one hand and fending off the man's advances with the left :). A wonderful scene, nearly a 'naughty' though borderline. Displayed in an ebonized wood frame with gilt bronze inner bezel or framing. Nice larger size and a beautiful, colorful miniature, guaranteed to please!
Very good condition. I did remove the miniature to scan it (better detail though the color does sometimes suffer) and there are two old splits in the painting panel, one at each side with an old vellum or paper securing each. It didn't look like the backing had ever been removed before so one of the vellum pieces is probably original (the other placed by me to secure the crack).
