I have 2 of these I'll be listing today, which I have had for decades. Rare and interesting sewing tool, it is a c.1810-30s silver filagree bangle bracelet which has an elongated hook onto which a skein of fine wool or perhaps coarse silk is anchored to allow it to flow freely to the hands for crochet or knitting, tatting. Likely German. This one has some filagree words worked into it. Quite rare, you'll find these in sewing reference books like Nerylla Taunton's "Antique Needlework Tools and Embroideries", and Genevieve Cummins' "Antique Boxes Inside and Out" (in which many of our own boxes were featured - both superb collector's reference books, highly recommended. But the filagree hinged bangle spool holder are only rarely on the market. Measurements noted on photos, also: Full length with the hook 6.25 ins (15.8cm); interior bangle 3.4"(8.5cm) x 3.5" (8cm). Weight 30 grams.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, I find no loose or missing filagree work, and no bends or damage. Complete and ready to use. Some of these were made without the hook for skein and with a filagree skein ball for silk attached, but this is the hook form.
