I remember the first time I saw this portrait miniature, and feeling sad. I thought for some reason it was of a child in a Victorian wheelchair. Of course a moment later and close-up view, I could see that she's all dressed up, seated in a bent-wood wicker outdoor chair, and her sober face would be mine, too, at that age, were I made to sit still long enough for a portrait to be painted on a beautiful day like that. Really, no small child wishes to sit still long, nor to be in crinoline and lace half-gloves. I often think it would have helped her to have held her pet bird, or a baby bunny or puppy for this portrait. And yet, then, it is a true portrait of childhood, isn't it. And all the more charming for it, really. Larger painting than most, beautifully done. There is not an artist's signature, but on back it tells us who she is (somewhat). Perhaps you'll want to research more about her. From the name, perhaps the child is Prussian, but the language used is French so maybe the bulk of her life was spent in France, or parts of Switzerland where French is dominant.
Very good to excellent throughout, age and type considered. A very sweet and ornamented frame she's in, and the original slightly convex cover glass, painting and frame are all excellent, these 170 or so years later. All measurements are noted on the photos.
