A stunning portrait, a young beauty with tight pin curls of the Napoleonic era framing her deep violet blue eyes, blushed cheeks and a cupid bow mouth. I find it incredible the miniaturists could capture her beauty in a face only 1" from chin to hairline. We do have her ID and a brief story of her life which will be included with the portrait. She was born to a French father and English mother in 1794 and lived to 1860. The youth in her face affirms a painting date of approximately c.1810-15. Full measurements are noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, dating to approximately 1815 based on ID and history (which will be included with the painting), it's not only an exceptional painting, but housed in the original heavy French brass easel-back frame, and further, in the bottom half of an original leather clad fitted case. Interior of that leather case is fitted to hold the frame, and much of the nap of the old silk velvet has been lost to time. If there ever was a top cover to the leather case, it has been lost, as well. No flaws on the painting, but also no artist's signature.
