Handsome young gentleman's portrait, an ornate lock of his blond hair worked into a G L monogram on the backside of this 18k yellow gold double locket pendant - pristine condition, Napoleonic era and fashion, earliest 1800s. Napoleon forward swept hairstyle, high point color and high color coat, one assumes he's French but rare to find blond blue-eyed men of his age. A handsome partial smile - was it a memento for a bride, which seems to me the hopeful origin, and not that he is mourned herein by his mother. Acid test affirmed at 18k gold, a mark too tiny to capture.
The locket is excellent, the quality and condition of thick convex polished glass or perhaps rock crystal, too, and no dents or really even scratches to disclose. It is simple to open, hinged as it is, but it would be a shame to remove the original works of art within. Please don't! Truly treasured, this one.
