Beautiful antique late 18th to early 19th century silk on silk embroidery tapestry with black glass mat, gilt gesso on wood frame and in wonderful condition! Outer frame measurement is 13.5" x 11 5/8" and 1" deep and the visible portion of the embroidery (inside black mat) is 9.5" x 7 5/8". Silk embroidery gilded wood frame, all original, including cover glass. A fabulous 1700s to earliest 1800s hand embroidered tapestry or sampler, the scene is so pleasing, one could possibly consider it Biblical with the sheep or lamb figures. Definitely a pastoral views. The chenille work and hand painted facial features are fabulous!
Very good condition, age & materials considered. A chip to the gesso at the top and bottom right side corners. I can't quite tell but it's either a cloud or a bid of fading to the blue silk in the upper left corner area, I would guess a cloud but there also appears to be the beginning of a bit of a tear or separation in that area.
