Such an interesting miniature painting and frame, a woman in c.1750s fashion and hair, preserved well under a fine beveled convex cover glass consistent with era, and in an elaborate hand carved and hand painted frame. This would be an unusual frame style for France, but more likely from Austria or even French-influnced areas of Switzerland where brightly painted wood would have been more the norm in this time and a century later. I do think it is a painting of a living subject and not one of the much later ones painted "aprés" or after an earlier known portrait. I found it in France. Measurements are noted on the photos. Very good to excellent condition for age and type, the painting is wonderful. It has been opened from back at some point, likely to clean the rare old cover glass. I did not open that later seal. It's a typical miniature painting, as expected for its time. The frame is such a charming companion. I have another from this era, a gentleman in very similar frame, and he will be offered separately as I don't think they are or were a couple. Photos of frame at all angles. Very small imperfections marked with x. Ready to hang. In fact she's on one of my walls as I write.
