The wonderful c.1810 French Palais Royal stick pin, brooch is what you're buying - fabulous mother of pearl, carved and set into 18k gold and with the requisite 18k gold and kiln-fired enamel flower. I've had (and you see pictured in the group images) matching jewelry pieces which were in pairs as a buckle, worn on ribbon belts at bodice on the French Empire waisted gowns, c.1800-1815. I have had portraits and portrait miniatures that show those very bodice buckles. I do wonder if this jewelry item has been adapted from 1 of the 2 pieces that once comprised a buckle. But I digress. This is really gorgeous, and fitted with the long 18k gold pin, perfect for lapel, or a bold cravat pin. Measurements noted on the photos.
very good to excellent condition throughout, with a not to the possibility of it being an altered half buckle as noted above, (see photo of back) and now is an 18k stick pin. No chips to the carved mother of pearl. No loss to the gold or the Palais Royal flower medallion. So pretty, rainbows in variations of light, particularly the facet-cut center oval. Gorgeous!
