The Grand Tour travelers of the Victorian era - travelers of wealth and standing, created industry in tourist souvenirs, and they bought them and had them sent back home as gifts and as proofs and remembrances of their wonderful travels. This is one of those and it depicts a wheel-engraved rendering of the Chateau at Bade, Germany. Perhaps Egermann, but definitely Bohemian glass, this one is mostly cut to clear and trimmed out in bands of red on rim, flutes of it on base and lines connecting the two. Elegant, large at 5.75" tall and a 3" diameter at the lip, it was probably an ale or rather large (for its time) wine goblet.
Very good condition for age and type, these are amazing to see preserved so well after all this time, when function and the fragile nature of the blown glass it considered. There is one nip to the ruby coating on the lip of this one (see images) and otherwise no chips nor cracks, no hairlines.
