I just love watching movies, don't we all! Unfortunately, a lot of times I catch myself paying more attention to the settings rather than the plots. The interior decor and especially do so when watching a movie set in the 1700-1800s. All of the beautiful decorative items they use as props, we've even had a studio or two ask us about sending pieces out on approval to use in sets. In any event, you nearly always see a great old barometer hanging on the wall and this week we're adding a few more fine old Victorian to Edwardian pieces. This one impressive, French or Swiss as the barometer dial text would indicate and hand carved in the Black Forest style with reticulated case, foliate accents and Fruits of the Hunt style bust of a dog or hound at the top. A brass framed aneroid barometer on the lower end, the paper dial with French text and has a maker or retailer initials marking. A centigrade thermometer is intact and mounted on a unique blue metal panel but is likely not original to the piece.  These most often had mercury thermometers but that has been a closely monitored substance as of late and not mailable really. Of course, we really don't have time to test the accuracy (and the weather here in Southern California is pretty much the same everyday) but they always make simply fabulous decorative accents and, with the myriad of sources for the weather, not many of us would be checking these to determine how our day is going to be :).

Very good condition. You'd never know from the front but, if you look at the back, you can see a wood panel added to reinforce an old break where the lower barometer case meets the more narrow thermometer backing.  I see no other chips, breaks or repairs and the card barometer dial is in great shape. As noted, we're sure the thermometer & blue plaque are not original. Possible a small chip or two but, as you can see, the piece is in overall wonderful shape given age and materials. See pictures for all measurements.
