A stunning Victorian era Grand Tour souvenir set, brooch and long dangling earrings in carved lava cameo (5 in all), found in France and still in their original presentation box, case. The parer dates c.1850-70, and while an acid test says 10k on frame of the brooch, the ear wires are only gold plated, possibly replacements. Carved from matched lava, the set is suitable to wear safely or display. Box is included. Full measurements noted on photos. I've photographed this against colorful silk embroidery just as a background, and those are not included.
Very good to excellent for age and type, I see no chips visible on any of the cameo carvings, no damage on 4 of the 5 cameo, and from backside on one long teardrop, I can see and have pointed out a tight fine hairline. Box's interior remains lovely for display, as does the exterior, though there is a chip/flaw at lower clasp which does not interfere with clasp working, isn't much noticeable unless you turn the box over to search for it. Hinge seems to have been reinforced inside by heavy card, cleanly done. A beautiful souvenir of Italy!
