Just in from Paris auction house, you'll see a tiny French 18k gold guarantee mark on the inside, (charonçon, noting it's imported 18k but acid tested) even though the ring is likely an English original (also UK mark within - leopard's head). Large amethyst of beautiful color and clarity is 16mm x 7mm and a 7mm depth, facet-cut with crisp undamaged stone set high on 6 prongs. Elegant, dating between 1950-70. The ring is a USA size 5.5, and can be easily resized, if needed.
Very good to excellent condition throughout. In huge enlargements, you can see a few surface smudges or my lack of proper gem cleaning ahead of sending to photos. It really is a clear stone and beautifully colored. Facet cut, I find no damage nor chips anywhere. Someone's special heirloom, obviously. The prongs are in fine condition, not worn down. The ring box shown is period, and will stay with the ring, though it is not original to it.
