Her face is a mere 1/4", chin to hairline, and yet look at the stunning work this artist has achieved in capturing her and the details of her c.1750-70s style, fashion. From my collections, she is straight out of the era of Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette, and while I did not find an ID or artist's signature, it surely has been painted as a token of friendship or love. Full measurements noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. Exquisite little painting, not a bit of loss or damage. So perfectly preserved, we know it's been in an important and treasured heirloom or legacy collection or museum collection. The beautiful lathe-turned burl box with its impossibly delicate edge trim is in remarkable condition without a flaw to report. I've cleaned this original slightly convex cover glass with its original and generous 18k gold mat or frame, and the entire piece is just superb.
