Portrait of Francisco Goya (1746-1828).
Oil on canvas painted Aprés (after) the original by Vicente Lopez Portaña c.1826
(original in The Prado Museum, Madrid).
Our painting is large: 37 1/2" x 29" and 3/4" depth on the old original wood stretcher.

Francisco de Goya, born in 1746 in Fuendetodos, near Zaragoza, and died in 1828 in Bordeaux, was a Spanish painter and engraver. His work includes easel paintings, murals, prints and drawings. He introduced several stylistic breaks that initiated romanticism and heralded the beginning of contemporary painting. Goyesque art is considered a precursor to the pictorial avant-gardes of the 20th century. Our painting is a late 1800s to earliest 1900s fine copy by another artist, after the original.
Our early 20th century oil painting is a superb copy. I've added an internet photo of the original so you can see it, too, in comparison. I found our painting in France. It is without a frame, ready to display as it is or to frame to your aesthetic.  A remarkable copy, and a fine antique painting in its own right, it does have some typical surface crazing to the old oil painting, and it displays beautifully. I see no holes, tears, evidence of restoration. Still on the late 1800s to earliest 1900s wood stretcher frame, tight and beautifully preserved.
