This one is early, excellent, an incredible work of carver's artistry. Look at the tiny faces of the affectionate couple; the detail in their clothing and his boots. Fidelity was always represented by a dog, and this could well be someone's portrait, carved in miniature, celebrating a wedding, perhaps.  Exquisitely carved from the plinth to the top of the 5 7/8" tall sculpture. The figures are like those made up as thread spools, but these are even more finely crafted. Full measurements are noted on the photos.

Very good to excellent condition for age and type, the faces are truly remarkable. A little loss to the gentleman's hat brim, and the hound has lost one tiny leg. An elegant carved plinth upon which they stand, look at the fine detail and leaf motif. I know some signatures from that era are just numbers and the carvers were paid upon sale of their carved goods. I'm not sure if that might be the numbers in pencil on the bottom. This one is rare, though.
