Complete with a working lock and the original key, literally hundreds of original gambling chips and a pair of game counters (are they for whist?) make this particular game chest a fabulous marvel. Add to that the beauty of the beautiful parquet-inlaid and brass-stringing outer chest - it's just superb in all ways, isn't it. Forgive me for not counting all these chips. It took forever just to separate and compose them in the 4 lift-out trays. The ante tray has canted corners that echo those of the outer chest, as you can see. Both game counters fit into one section and that leaves room for 2 decks of playing cards, which are all that is not inside this one. Isn't it fabulous! Great for Poker or Bridge!

Very good to excellent condition throughout. No broken chips, though they could all stand to have a quick cleaning and rub with a preserving oil since they're natural in nature. The game counters are in great condition, too, and not often still with a set. Not a single one of those brass stringing or pencil-edging panels is lost nor are any of the quatrefoil inlays of brilliant golden brass, but I can cound 2 or 3 of the small mother of pearl insets that are either partial or gone. I think you can see them in our photo. Very little flaw for a c.1850-70 game chest, but we try to be sure to disclose anything we see.
