I have a zillion beautiful old French frames, and am finally beginning to work them up to sell. If you're wanting to put together a tabletop or piano or desk grouping of your favorite photos, these are splendid grouped in various sizes and shapes, all sold separately. Almost all are c.1850-1880, "Napoleon III" era, mid-Victorian in age. A few are earlier, none later.
This one is a gorgeous square smaller-sized frame, 5" tall rectangle, plus the added inch of the elaborate top. A single oval aperture is beautifully set, flanked by gorgeous French appliqués that repeat the motif of the top. An oval miniature or photo frame, the convex original glass. A hanging loop top and original easel back remain fully intact, as does the original 19th century cover glass. Ready to add your small photos and display either hanging or with easel stand. Very good condition, for age and type - beautifully crafted. These old ones have fine detail and this one has no damage to report but it is missing the insert on backside, leaving the inner working of the frame open to view. One could easily craft a replacement backing, the tabs are intact. Thick cast, brilliant dore bronze. A cloth (silk, refurbished beautifully) inner mat into which the aperture is set, flanked by appliqués. The top or 'fronton' crest of the frame is just stunning, as is the brilliant high gold of the dore bronze. My favorite type of French frames. It is fully intact, ready to use.
