An interesting and beautiful old frame to house this distinguished gentleman. I remember buying him as an early 1800s French Navy commander, but I promise you I am no expert in military uniforms from one Nation to another all through time. An accomplished artist, though. I have not opened this one. The back is nicely sealed, but as you can see, a little hinge collecting on the outer perimeter of his cover glass and it could probably benefit from a clean. Does not show up in person as much as in our enlarged digital photos taken under lighting. The black mat is also wood, and you can see 2 ancient worm holes in the old wood. Kingwood frame, accented with a black wood border - dramatic and interesting. Full measurements noted on the photos.
Very good condition for age and type, could use a glass cleaning if one wishes to take off the old original woven French Jacquard cloth backing. Wooden mat of frame shows 2 wood worm exit holes, probably over 100 years old, no pithiness and inactive. Painting and cover glass are each excellent.
