One of the tiniest portrait miniatures in my collections, this frame is just 2.5" tall, and his face is only 1/4", yet look at the personality, those blue eyes and the perfect attention to detail of his clothing and hair. Dates easily to c.1750-70. The very early ones like this are usually quite small in size, easily tucked into a vest pocket. This is a young boy, approximately 8-10, child of nobility. Very good to excellent condition for age and type. I find no flaws worthy of note - a small disruption at a corner of the composite frame which you'll have to search out to even see. The original work of art is excellent. I do not see a signature, but I didn't open this one's sealed backing to see if perhaps signature is along border, covered by the mat, or if information can be found noted inside as is sometimes the case. Back appears to be original seal. A splendid little gem of a painting!
