Superb 250 or so year old shagreen etui and perfume flask. This one dates c.1750-1800, and survives in very fine form for age and type. French crafted, elegant detail to the flask or flacon, and also to the old case. Scent caddy for vest or purse, it is 4" long
Shagreen is the fine leather made from belly of stingray, and is/was in that era, green. Slightly faded here, it really suffers almost no loss at all which is rare. Still carries the old original crystal perfume vial within, missing only a little applied gold. Not a nip or chip on it, all bevels smooth to the fingertip. Original stopper is stuck enough I'm not willing to force it. It will need a soak in oil. We'll do that, hoping it will release and we can then clean the interior a little more fully for you. But at listing, it dose not want to come out easily. Etui hinge and button release closure clasp both working fine. Measurements noted on our photos.
