Always drawn to these, and we can never keep them in inventory. The beautiful old champleve enamel work always reminds me of the stained glass in the old cathedrals of France. This one is beautiful and exceptionally well preserved. Lots of photos to review. Napoleon III era, early and made for the Carte de Visite photos which date c.1860-70. Easel back and hanging loop, a slide-open backside and the old cover glass all intact and ready for your favorite photo to be easily added. The aperture is for 4" x 2" carte de visits, as mentioned (a type of early card photos). Measurements are noted on photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, we don't often find these without any flaw to report, no chips or cracks, hairlines, really not even any loss to the champleve kiln-fired enamel work c.1848-70s. Superb, and just recently in from France.
