A remarkably beautiful antique French box - large in size that it might have been a marriage or trousseau chest. A stunning example of the excellence of the 19th century French ebeniste/ebaniste (cabinetry maker). Look at the true thrill of wood grains worked into the serpentine and convex-topped form of this box. It is a work of art! Inlaid with mother of pearl as cartouche, no monogram. The box is raised on small bun feet. It is lined in cream colored raw silk, and I feel certain it is not the old original lining, yet it looks very nice and is fresh and clean. Photos show the intricacy of marquetry - look at the grain. Measurements noted on photos.
Very good to excellent condition throughout. Magnificent hardwoods, I find no chips nor losses. Working lock and key still with it.
