A large and elegant well-preserved panel from a piece of late 1700s to earliest 1800s furniture upholstery tapestry, this piece will be magnificent made up into a lushly fringed and down-filled decorator throw pillow. Strong and supple, sturdy enough to use as a chair seat, as well. Figural, colorful, dragons, exotic mythical birds, medieval costumed people, a fanciful umbrellas and florals filling the space. The embroidery work is in super-fine petit point for all figures and closer to grospoint needlepoint for the background. You can see from the image of backside, little if any fading has occurred, which also means no sun damage. All it needs is your creativity and a little time, and it is sure to become your favorite pillow.
Very good to excellent condition throughout. The outer edges are not perfectly squared, and I would cut the largest rectangle with curved corners on this one to preserve as much of the panel as possible. No odors, no staining - this one is truly exceptional for age and type. Thick yarns in wool and silk, if a stitch is missing, I did not see it. One I've kept for myself for decades, stored archival.
