Elegant antique French hallmarked sterling silver & cobalt glass open salt PAIR with spoons, each with mascaron style lion figures, ball & claw feet and acanthus accenting! A beautiful old pair, with just a nod to the replaced cobalt glass wells up top. The sterling bases and spoons all bear the French Minerve or Minerva hallmark, the tiny number "1" within those marks means they're in .950 silver (95% pure so above the .925 standard for "sterling" silver). The silversmith marks are for Martial Fray, Paris circa 1849-1861. Gorgeous!
Very good condition. As noted, the cobalt glass wells are surely replacements though I can't be 100% certain, the style is a bit different than others we've had in this age range over the years. The silver is all in great shape with just some age tarnish in places. There is a small chip to the rim of one cobalt well. See images for all measurements.
