VERY Country French antique Charles X era P&H Choisy marked 3pc 8" cabinet plate set, "Cris de Paris" entitled pieces with black transfer floral band or garland borders and unique figural center scenes depicting the everyday laborers of Paris! The "Cries of Paris" are characteristic expressions of trades of the past, used more particularly by the various street vendors and Parisian laborers. A theme brought to the forefront by the c. 1737-1746 drawings of Edme Bouchardon depicting street peddlers and vendors, the average laborer, etc. These three part of a more extensive numbered series, this set is numbered 17, 20 & 22 and are entitled "Pors Ran es Pors ecosses", "Des Gras Cerneaux" and "Des choux des poireaux des carottes deux lia...." or, roughly translated, "------", "My Big Kernels" and "Leeks Cabbage Carrots two..." (I can't quite decipher the text on all). All three plates have die stamped maker marks on the backs, shield shapes that read "P&H Choisy" for Valentin Paillart & Hippolyte Hautin c. 1824-35. Very good condition, age considered. These have an off white or cream color to them, not white. Some slight discolorations and the backs have scratches. Possibly a few tiny nips to the rims but no larger chips, no cracks or other damage to note. Each has an 8" diameter.
