Of love and mourning, this c.1750-1800 patch box shows a young woman mourning her lost love, love bird pair to left telling us part of the story. A large tomb with marble bust of a handsome young man, around which she wraps herself and a garland of roses. A treasured moments, the box remains in very nice condition for age. Full measurements noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, you can see that there is an age/shrinkage hairline on side of the lid, but otherwise no breaks or chips or cracks to disclose. The convex original cover glass is perfectly preserved and had protected the painting on ivory wafer perfectly. An unusual full landscape, her face is less than 1/4". Quite remarkable tiny painting.
