The little vest pocket picnic "nécessaire" (necessary) is complete with most of the original implements and a tiny added-in antique pocket knife to fill in the only opening whose original item has gone missing. The wine corkscrew folds in a sturdy hing, the scissors are sharp, file, pocket knife and folding toothpick are all nearly perfect and so is the outer leather etui or case. One of the nicest of these I've ever found from this era. Many survive in a much more ragged form. The leather case would lead you to believe it's never been carried or used.
Very good to excellent for age and type. As noted, leather etui is in superb condition throughout. The gold embossed "Toilette" and star are crisp and bright. The interior fittings are shown from all angles in our images. There's a fine hairline at the rivet on the larger of the 2 pocket knives (fruit knife), and the very tip of the tortie toothpick is blunted. Otherwise, just such a nice little set. Measurements are on photos, but it is 3.5" long, 2.5" wide and 1" thick all closed up. Not exactly a purse item, and probably made for a gentleman, it dates 1850-70.
