This one is just superb! Extra large table snuff from mid-late 1700s, French, hand carved and so much fine pique work in tiny brass pin inlays, it's truly a work of art. The sold is particularly splendid with the nickel taps set on heel and toe. Overall pique and I really am not seeing any areas of loss. There is a nickel cartouche up top which has never been engraved. Snuff is, of course, pulverized tobacco one 'sniffed' up the nose.
Very good to excellent with one flaw to note: there is an edge chip on the outer lip up top of the boot into which the sliding lid comes forward. It's on the left side of the lid, if looking straight down on the boot. You can see it in our images, and it is narrow but about 3/8" long there at the front of the boot top. The lid slides but not super-smoothly. It might have a tiny warp or something, yet it does slide and closed and appears fine and in line. Nothing else can be complained over. A spectacular large example of this very 1700s art.
